Task 1:
Reflection:
This task required me to evaluate the reference collection of the school I am working at and prepare an order to expand on the collection. Many of the students at Mill Creek enjoy reading non-fiction books, so I was able to find many books that would intrigue them. I found a list of some of the books needed for CCGPS that were a part of a series. I decided that students might enjoy reading the full series of books on each topic and purchased books that completed each series needed for CCGPS. Students also enjoy reading about famous people. I bought a few books that were about famous Americans that read like graphic novels, which seem to appeal to the students at my school.

You can find further online resources to supplement the materials purchased for Mill Creek Elementary School's Media Center here.
task 2:
Task 2 required me to prepare materials concerning the ethical use of materials. I chose to send a letter to the teachers at Mill Creek concerning copyright/fair use and video viewing guidelines. As more and more teachers prepare materials for their classrooms and decide to sell them online, I figured this would be a topic of interest. Spring and the end of school are around the corner, so more videos will be brought into the lesson plans, as well. This is the letter that was given to all staff members at Mill Creek concerning copyright and video viewing guidelines.
This is the copyright and fair use handout that was included with the letter. This document can be found here.
These are the guidelines for viewing videos at Mill Creek Elementary. This was included in the packet I gave to teachers.
Key Assessment:
This Key Assessment was created during my FRIT 7134 class in order to demonstrate my ability to evaluate a collection of books and develop my collection of resources around a particular subject area or performance standard.
Collection Development
This assignment required me to purchase materials for a given standard using a budget of $4,000. I chose to purchase materials for the Educational and Occupational Exploration QCC strands for grades K-5. With my chosen standards, there are a variety of units of study that can be addressed. Teachers can choose to work on community helpers, career opportunities that are available in particular core fields (answering the question “When will I ever use this?” that most children ask), and work related to a school’s career day program. There is a 1st grade standard for community helpers that teachers in this grade level can use resources from this collection to develop lessons relating to this subject. This collection will be able to take students from Pre-K through 5th grade. The collection of works chosen will grow with students and teachers according to what their interests are. The QCC that this collection is based around is under the Guidance standard. The sub-standards are in the Educational and Occupational category.

This is a link to a wiki created on a Web 2.0 site that could be used in the classroom. This assignment required me to create an "instruction book" of a Web 2.0 site. I chose GoodReads as my Web 2.0 resource for it's value as a book recommendation resource in the Media Center and school community. Here is the link to my Wiki.
